Pangolin's Interactive Messaging Unlimited system lets you 1) receive and process incoming SMS text messages, and 2) display them in public using video or lasers. Step 1 of this system is handled by a program also named IMU. Step 2 is handled by an SMS text display program such as Video Messaging Unlimited, or Lasershow Messenger which is described below.

Pangolin's LivePro laser projection system includes Lasershow Messenger software. This lets IMU control scrolling output from a laser projector.

Laser messaging applications

There are a number of potential applications that can benefit from laser-projected SMS text messages. In general, laser has the benefit of being unique (i.e. not everybody has a laser system so laser images tend to be eye-catching) and it is scalable (i.e. laser displays may be only a few centimeters wide, or as wide as a mountain). These attributes of a laser display make it well suited for messaging applications.

Trade shows

The scalability and project-ability of lasers make trade shows a clear candidate. Lasers can be projected onto walls and onto suspended screens that are located high above all of the other booths and thus provide a tremendous advantage in terms of visibility.

Discos and clubs

Discos and clubs are another clear candidate for laser-projected SMS-text. Many discos and clubs already have a laser and Pangolin's Lasershow Messenger system allows this laser to be used as it normally would for graphics and beams, as well as for SMS text messaging and voting.

Large-scale displays

Laser message projected on the side of a mountainRecently there have been organized efforts to use lasers to project SMS text on the side of mountains, to attract the attention of world leaders.

A similar project used lasers to project SMS text on different buildings in various world cities. The idea was that for one day, people in different parts of the world could have their messages projected, and that these messages would be seen by passersby in big cities.

The scalability of lasers coupled with the public attraction aspects made these projects successful in generating attention and press interest. Of course it is not practical to project video on the side of a building or mountain, so this is an area where lasers have a clear advantage.
